Reed Recognized In Huntsville Times as a Pacesetter

Mr. Gregory S. Reed, Research Associate at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis, was awarded a contract by Exploration Physics International, Inc. (EXPI). Reed will perform software engineering tasks for EXPI’s solar wind model, including programming language porting, module integration, and high performance computing conversion.

Petty Recognized In Huntsville Times as a Pacesetter

Dr. Mikel D. Petty was recgonized today in the Huntsville Times Pacesetters Section, which gave the following story:
"Dr. Mikel D. Petty, director of the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Center for Modeling, Simulation and Analysis, was an invited speaker at the recent 2009 Modeling and Simulation Leadership Summit, an event attended by several members of Congress. He described modeling and simulation activities at the member organizations of the Alabama Modeling and Simulation Council."

Benfield Recognized In Huntsville Times as a Pacesetter

Dr. Michael P.J. Benfield was recognized today in the Huntsville Times Pacesetters Section, which gave the following story:
"Dr. Michael P.J. Benfield, deputy director of the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Center for Modeling, Simulation and Analysis, has been awarded a grant from Marshall Space Flight Center to lead an integrated project team course. Teams of engineering students will develop methods of using the Ares V spacecraft to service a large space telescope."

Morris joins CMSA as Research Scientist

Dr. Anthony W. Morris has joined CMSA as a Research Scientist. He received a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2003. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Morris was an Assistant Professor in the UAHuntsville Psychology Dept. His research interests include human factors, performance learning, and the control of objects in virtual environments.

Turso joins CMSA as Research Associate

Ms. Brie E. Turso has joined CMSA as a Research Associate. She received a B.S. in Engineering Science from Pennsylvania State University in 2004. Before coming to CMSA, Ms. Turso was an Engineer at Bechtel Bettis. Her research interests include construction and optimization of models to accurately represent processes and systems.

Bradley joins CMSA as Research Associate

Ms. Stacy L. Bradley has joined CMSA as a Research Associate. She received a M.A. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2006. Before coming to CMSA, Ms. Bradley was a Research Assistant at the Cognitive Aging Laboratory at UAH. Her research interests include cognitive performance, speed of processing, and ergonomics.

Nielsen joins CMSA as Research Associate

Mr. Daniel W. Nielsen has joined CMSA as a Research Associate. He received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2003. Before coming to CMSA, Mr. Nielsen was a Software Engineer at XonTech. His research interests include data conditioning, software-hardware design, and visualization.

Turner joins CMSA as Research Engineer

Dr. Matthew W. Turner has joined CMSA as a Research Engineer. He received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2007. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Turner was a Graduate Research Assistant at the UAHuntsville Propulsion Research Center. His research interests include magnetohydrodynamic modeling, computational fluid dynamics, spacecraft propulsion system modeling, and spacecraft conceptual design.

Fortune joins CMSA as Research Engineer

Dr. Julie L. Fortune has joined CMSA as a Research Engineer. She received a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2005. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Fortune was an Engineering Consultant at Quality System Management, Inc. Her research interests include systems engineering, quality engineering, and statistical analysis.

Bolshinskiy joins CMSA as Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Leonid G. Bolshinskiy has joined CMSA as a Senior Research Scientist. He received a Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics from Donetsk Galkin Institute in 1986. His research interests include cryogenic fluid systems and modeling.

UAH Research Review: New center busy at work supporting U.S. space program

A newly established UAH research center is already conducting work in support of America’s space program.

The Center for Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (CMSA) is developing new modeling methods, applications of simulation techniques in novel and specialized circumstances as well as simulation verification and validation. These advances have been put to work at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center immediately, according to center director Dr. Mikel Petty.

Little joins CMSA as Principle Research Engineer

Dr. Jeffery K. Little has joined CMSA as a Principle Research Engineer. He received a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1996. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Little was Chief Technologist at Jacobs Engineering, Science, and Technical Services Group at NASA MSFC. His research interests include Aerospace modeling, and parallel computation.

Reed joins CMSA as Research Associate

Before coming to CMSA, Mr. Reed was a Test Design Co-op Engineer at ADTRAN. His research interests include human behavior modeling, experimental economics, and technical intelligence.

He received a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2005. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Benfield was a Systems Engineer at SAIC. His research interests include systems engineering, technical team performance, and system-level rocket propulsion modeling.

Rapid growth of the modeling and simulation industry has resulted in the creation of a new research center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the recruitment of a new scientist.

Dr. Mikel Petty, former chief scientist at the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center at Old Dominion University, has joined UAH to lead the university's efforts at supporting the modeling and simulation industry in Alabama, university officials announced today.

Dr. Wesley N. Colley has joined CMSA as a Senior Research Scientist. He received a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Princeton University in 1998. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Colley was a Senior Research Scientist at the Virginia Modeling Analysis and Simulation Center. His research interests include physics-based modeling, model verification and validation, agent-based modeling, and astrophysical research.

Petty joins CMSA as Director

Dr. Mikel D. Petty has joined CMSA as Director. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida in 1997. Before coming to CMSA, Dr. Petty was Chief Scientist at Old Dominion University’s Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center. His research interests include simulation interoperability and composability, multi-resolution simulation, human behavior modeling, modeling and simulation education, and applications of theory to simulation.
